into producing a cyclocross race at the Cow Palace?
That question kept rattling around in my head on Friday as gusts of 50 miles per hour repeatedly stretched and tore down caution tape and knocked over snow fencing and barricades. There was somebody laughing at us, I just knew it. At the 11th hour the shit hit the fan. The tractor broke, the wind was howling and it started to rain harder than I had ever seen it rain before. Keep it together? Sure. What choice do you have when your at risk of not having enough numbers for the category heats. You get it done.
We had planned to have the course finished and ride-able Friday morning. But constant set-backs turned that plan into overcooked oatmeal that people came on Saturday to eat by the shovel-full.
The aftermath is pretty straight-forward… We’re tired, hungry, lean and not quite done. About 800 cubic yards of dirt between the dirt jump competition and the cyclocross race lay baking onto the asphalt of the Cow Palace. Phil Segura said it right during a phone call today, “we just tested the limits of the Cow Palace,…” You can say that again. Tested the limits of how you can make a cross course too.
Different? Yep. Thanks for the fun all.
